CFHS Databases on the Internet

  • Post category:News

Over the past few years the Committee has been concerned about the amount of data we have and how this is published and stored. The concern is that we are all ageing and there is no younger element coming forward to take over. This situation is now even more relevant when we consider what the consequences of COVID19 could be.

We also have potential problems with any Windows upgrades, as our applications are only compatible with the current Windows version.

Taking this into consideration, the Committee has decided to investigate submitting the data to Find My Past, in order to keep all our records available to the public. We will continue to offer the databases on CD as long as these are compatible with the reigning Windows version

The first of our databases, St Paul’s Cemetery Burials, will be available online via Find My Past within a month or so. This is a subscription site and we are currently investigating a discount to our members, should they wish to purchase a membership.

The advantage for genealogists is that, unlike our CDs which are Windows only, there is no restriction on the user machine’s operating system. If this proves successful, we will gradually transfer our other database CDs.

We will keep you informed and let members know when the St Paul’s database is available to view.
