About The Coventry Census Databases
The six census databases included in this package were transcribed by members of the Coventry Family History Society over many years and were originally intended for publication on paper or microfiche. Because of the space limitations involved in these methods of publication, a number of abbreviations were occasionally adopted.
Four of the censuses (1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871) were fully transcribed and the data reflects the amount of detail originally collected. The other two censuses were transcribed as name indexes: in the case of the 1901 census, only as a surname index.
